The HBC Board of Directors was initiated just prior to our finalized 501(c)(3) status in June 2001 when a core group of Parents’ Guild members saw that the administrative and governance needs of the organization were outgrowing the more informal governance of the Guild. The established Board continues today to support HBC in its constant development through ever-increasing professional standards. This year the Board has expanded to include new members from the local business community. Furthermore, the Company Manager position was added in January of 2004 to provide HBC with more consistent and focused administrative support during the production season.

With the drive of the Board, HBC has been better able to meet its programming goals. An Annual Giving Campaign was initiated Fall 2001 and continues today. We received our first grant from the Harford County Cultural Arts Board in the spring of 2003 for use in our 2004 production of Cinderella, and we are awaiting the outcome of an application to the Maryland State Arts Council. The Board is also instrumental in tailoring events that will raise the awareness of HBC in the community. For our Spring 2004 production of Cinderella, the Board adapted the more traditional Cast Party into a Gala Glass Slipper Ball. This venue will allow the Board to better interact with audience members and invited dignitaries and to promote the importance of HBC as vital cultural organization worthy of community support.

With the constant support of the Board combined with the vision of our dedicated Artistic Director, HBC programming has been able to evolve since its inception, and now, it encompasses a full scope of educational and cultural opportunities. The repertoire has grown to include classical and contemporary ballet developed to enhance the cultural and educational experience of both children and adults. In addition to participating in community programs such as the Harford County ArtQuest Festival in 2000, 2001, and 2002 and ArtView at the Festival of the Arts in Bel Air, MD in 2002, HBC produces two major performances annually. These productions not only showcase the talent and accomplishments of HBC Members, but also provide our dancers with an opportunity to teach and touch the minds and hearts of our large audience.
